Brief
2005 is a work from the past, written for the future. This collection of piano pieces documents a formative period of intense study in Bologna, capturing a young composer’s search for a new, abstract, and deeply expressive language for the piano.
Among the works is “Movimento a 4 mani,” a dynamic piece for piano four-hands conceived during train journeys between Bologna and Palermo. Like a train in motion, the music moves with an incessant rhythm, journeying through melodies and repeated notes that evoke shifting tracks and dark tunnels. The piece was premiered in 2005 at a festival dedicated to young composers, hosted by the Bologna Conservatory.
The album also features “Di Nebbia, le notti a Bologna,” a suite of short pieces written during a relentless, foggy winter. The music translates the atmospheric haze into sound, expressing the fears and uncertainties of that youthful period while holding onto a persistent desire to see what lay just beyond the fog, with a hopeful eye toward the future.
